McIntosh XRT 1k Loudspeaker

McIntosh Acoustic Engineers have further refined the concept of line source column in the XRT1K Loudspeaker to provide superior sound reproduction in a full range system. It uses the same acoustic technology found in the famous XRT2K Column Loudspeakers. The technology has been refined over the years and is now the 6th generation of the design and provides superior quality sound reproduction in a full range system.

The High Frequency Section utilizes a patented Column Design with multiple three-quarter inch Titanium Dome Tweeters and two inch Midrange Inverted Titanium Dome Drivers. Since the audio power fed to a column is distributed among all the drivers, each driver does not have to work as hard, resulting in greater power handling capability and a dramatic reduction in distortion. The Sound Waves from the Column produce a Cylindrical Wave Front with a stable symmetrical horizontal sound dispersion to minimize undesirable floor and ceiling reflections that could detract from a stable sound image. In the illustration the Loudspeaker on the left side produces a Cylindrical Wave Front and the Loudspeaker on the right side produces a conventional Spherical Wave Front.

The Low Frequency Section of the System consists of two 10 inch Woofers. They have a large magnet assembly and long cone excursions with very low levels of harmonic distortion and frequency response down to 16Hz. The Woofer also incorporates McIntosh's Patented LD/HP2 Magnetic Circuit Design. Finite Element Analysis and testing resulted in a design concept which utilizes a pair of aluminum shorting sleeves in the magnetic circuit. The sleeves virtually eliminate the negative influence of the fluctuating voice coil field on the permanent magnet field. This results in lower distortion due to more linear magnetic flux in the voice coil gap. Additional benefits are less volume compression due to improved heat transfer through the sleeves and a cooler operating voice coil. Both measurements, as well as critical listening, reveal ten times less distortion than previous designs. A good example of this low distortion is incredible smoothness and clarity in the reproduction of the human voice. McIntosh XLS 320

The XLS series begins with the XLS320, a compact speaker that can be placed on a bookshelf, on a stand, or mounted on a wall. With a depth of only 3-3/4" the XLS320 can be installed in a wall as well. This optional in-wall mounting kit includes a mesh metal cover which is paintable to match any wall color or room decor.

BESSEL FUNCTION TWEETER ARRAY

The five individual tweeters and their phase relationships are adjusted so that the array acts as a high frequency point source with a broad dispersion pattern. In addition, the array greatly increases power handling for high frequencies. The Bessel Array can be used in either the vertical or horizontal position without compromising sonic integrity.

UNIFIED "VOICING"

Combining the Bessel Tweeter Array with a new and exceedingly precise crossover, McIntosh Loudspeaker Engineers established a structure able to generate a realistic sound image throughout the listening room. This determines the "voice" or sound character of the speaker and is the foundation of the family of XLS loudspeakers.

PATENTED LD/HP TECHNOLOGY

McIntosh woofers and midranges feature the patented LD/HP motor structure. This design utilizes aluminum shorting rings at both ends of the pole piece to extend and linearise the magnetic field around the voice coil. Distortion is reduced by 10dB or more. These rings also increase voice coil heat dissipation and the power handling of the speaker.

McIntosh XLS 360

McIntosh speaker engineers deigned the XLS-360 to be equally at home in either home theater or audiophile music systems. This loudspeaker employs a second generation Bessel tweeter array for uncompressed, high-power reproduction of the high frequencies with both delicacy and natural detail. There are several rear panel adjustments on the back of the XLS-360 to allow for perfect imaging in any listening position! From the tweeter array, there is a 6.5 inch midrange driver and two patented LD/HP 10 inch bass drivers that use aluminum shorting rings in both ends of the pole piece of the woofer for greatly reduced distortion, as well as, helping to keep the driver cooler and increasing power handling. McIntosh XR-200

The 19 element midrange/tweeter array is comprised of twelve 2 inch high-power, long throw titanium midrange drivers and seven 3/4 inch magnetically cooled titanium dome tweeters. Three 8 inch LD/HP bass drivers employ a twelve pound magnet structure delivers the speed and power for bone crushing tight bass. The loudspeaker incorporates an organ-style port that exits from the top of the enclosure.
