The Dual Chassis design completely separates all power
supply, microprocessor and control circuits from the pure audio circuits for total noise isolation. McIntosh has led in both technologies, and has just raised the bar again, with the C1000, The C-1000 is a three-chassis design that offers the ultimate in flexibility. It lets the listener choose between a solid-state preamplifier, vacuum tube preamplifier, or both. All three modules can be combined with each source available through either preamplifier module, selectable at the push of a remote control button. For ultimate stereo fidelity the preamplifier modules employ Dual Mono topologies yielding over 130 dB of channel separation.

In the late 70's, McIntosh realized how much influence the room had in accurate and musical sound reproduction. If you had connected the exact identical audio components in two different listening rooms, you would result in two different sounding audio systems! In response to this, McIntosh Designed and manufactured the MQ-104 Environmental Room Equalizer. The Stereo Shop would go to the client's home with a third octive acoustic analyzer, install a MQ-104 and calibrate it to their audio system to correct room anomalies. The difference in the quality of the music reproduction was remarkable; imaging would improve greatly, life-like clarity and lack of "boomy" mid-bass response. It was like rediscovering your music all over again! Now we fast forward to 2011; McIntosh has developed the latest advance in acoustic room correction, the MEN-220! The McIntosh MEN-220 addresses many different factors that can hinder your audio system from performing its best, including speaker placement, and most importantly, the room itself! Many audiophiles consider the listening room to be the "fourth component", and there was little that could be done to correct these issues, until now!

How the MEN-220 accomplishes this is by utilizing the supplied laboratory grade microphone and stand to acoustically measure the various positions of your listening room. The microphone is positioned in the first listening location or "Focus Point", and then the MEN-220 will play a multitude of audio frequencies to take an acoustic "snap shot" of your listening position. The information is then stored in the units memory, and by placing the microphone in different locations in your room, the MEN-220 listens how the room is acoustically configured, for example, how high the ceilings are, various room reflections, and where the loudspeakers are located. When sufficient amount of "Room Knowledge" is obtained, the MEN-220 uses its sophisticated processing to automatically create an acoustically correct response. With the McIntosh MEN-220, will allow you to preset as many as eight "Focus Points'; so if you enjoy listening to music in several different locations in your room, this unit will assure that you'll always have "the best seat in the house", regardless where you sit to listen to your music! There are two additional settings that include a "Global" which insures everyone in the listening room will have the same great experience, and "By-Pass" setting which eliminates any of the room calibration processing, to hear the before and after difference in the music with the MEN-220. The McIntosh MEN-220 offers is the ability to easily integrate subwoofers into your system, and then again utilize the Room Perfect EQ processing to greatly simplify subwoofer placement and calibration that results in low bass frequencies that are deep and extremely musically accurate bass response that is nothing short than breathtaking!
